is this legit? (battery testing/charging)
I bought a new '20 CR-V EX last month and I've had to jump start the battery whenever the car sits for more than a day. I imagine this was because the car sat on the dealer's lot for more than a year with only 10 miles on the odometer. Also, the first several times I drove the car were local -- just a few miles around town. Then a couple of weeks ago I had to drive 170 miles to catch a plane. I figured that would be enough to fully charge the battery but to my surprise, the battery was dead when I returned a week later.
So yesterday I finally took it to the dealer to get a new battery. Instead, they ran a diagnostic test that the service writer said takes a couple of hours. Almost 3 hours later, he reports that the battery is fine! I'm like, WTF?! No, it's not fine. He explained that they also charged the battery (I'm wondering if THAT's the reason it took so long!). I asked why the car didn't properly charge the battery on my recent trip, he claimed their charging system is somehow different than the car's charging system, and that it should be fine now. At least he said they'll tow it in and replace the battery if it happens again.
I plan to let the car sit in the garage for a week before I try to start it again. Let's just say I'm skeptical. However, I'm curious about what the service writer said about their battery diagnostic and charging system(s). Can someone elaborate? Thanks.
