If it aint broke dont fix it. Well my driver door was having an issue for a while where the door lock actuator was doing that loud buzzing sound if I used the door lock silver tab on the door. If I pulled back on the door lok tab next to it while using the silver power tab it would lock the door and not make a racket. So I bought a replacement door actuator and thought today Ill fix what isnt 100% broke. Well now it is broke.
After opening up the door I found the actuator dangling in the door. The bracket its mounted to has snapped. I looked at the outside of the door and found that one of the 3 large countersink bolts was missing and the other 2 were really loose. I have tightened the other 2 back for now but the lock isnt working now. Not even with a key from outside the door. What should I do to fix this?
So the actuator not working and the lock not working witih the key points to the keylock itself not connected. You should, for example, be able to pull on the top rod and lock and unlock the car, pretty much regardless of the actuator. If everything else is loose, I wouldn't be surprised the lock itself also is now kinked or not connected.
Once you can manually lock and unlock, the actuator can be connected. Often, when connected the actuator back in, people put it in crooked or not actually grabbing the rod to move it up and down.
I have put it all back together minus the actuator since the bracket that would hold it is broken..its in the pic i posted still attached to the actuator. Since putting it back I can at least from the inside lift the inside door handle and use the manual lock tab and then step out and shut the door and the door is locked. I can unlock it from the outside but cant relock from the outside. From here I guess I can look for some instruction on how to remove the assembly and weld the bracket back together and reattach the actuator.
