96 Accord fans - when should they come on?
I noticed that after a long drive I didnt hear what would have expected and thats the sound of the fans running when I got out of the car. When should they come on?
Thanks tech8, I did test to see with the AC on if the fans were both running and they do work. Now I need to take a test drive and get the engine heated up and take my temp gun with me and see if its over 223 F if the fan kicks in. Ill try driving without the AC on and see how toasty it gets.
On the last drive I mentioned I was running the AC so maybe the engine was kept cooler than I realized. The weather was around 80 F that afternoon also which maybe why it wasnt too hot.

I'm sure you already know this, but the temp gun will not give you an accurate temp of the coolant, not at all, just that it's warm. You might find it easier to scan the car while running so you can actually see what the temp sensor believes it's reading as the temp.
Thanks for that, I did use the temp gun after driving it around town today maybe 10 or 12 miles and the temp gun was reading 180 F at the upper radiator housing. I do though have a Bluedriver device that I can use..didnt even think about that. Does it give a temp reading?

Somewhere along the way of the life of the car that "keep on fans after the car is turned off" function somehow stopped working. I changed the sensor and it still wasn't working, so i stopped thinking too much about it.

This is true, and I've used this to cool the radiator whenever I have had an overheating issue, allowing me to open it and top up the coolant/distilled water easily and safely. Handy feature to have.
Well its been a few years but I have been having the issue happen from time to time on my 2000 Accord. Mainly in stop/go traffic. I tested the fans by turning on the fan and ac and they both come on. I also tried running the engine with the bluedriver reading the engine coolant temp and it reached 243 degrees and the fans did not come on. The dash meter gauge was about at the 3/4 mark also. In traffic I would just turn the heat up full blast and that helped bring the temp down, but I was wanting to find out what to check next. There should be a relay right?

Take a look at this and see if it helps you narrow down if it's a fan, relay, or control switch.
