Default D-Series Build - Too Many Options

Hey guys, long time no see. I let my little rust bucket sit for a few eons, picked up a Supra, and threw myself into learning a lot about a lot of stuff that wasn't Civics. But I'm back, ready to build, and faced with some serious decision paralysis. As far as options go, I have way too many, and despite all of the FAQs and threads and forums, I'm unsure of how to get the outcome I want.

As far as parts I have access to:
  • D15B2 - complete motor
  • D16Z6 - complete head, ecu
  • D16Y7 - complete motor, ecu
  • D16Y8 - complete motor
  • CX 5spd
  • LX 5spd
  • EX 5spd

And as far as my goal: I'm making it stupid. I want too many ponies out of this build, and a turbo to go along with it. I'm probably gonna use a Speed Factory Stage 2 F/I cam, and their no-notch rods with Vitara pistons if they're ever back in stock. But that's really all I know.

So come, live vicariously through me, and tell me where I want to go with this. More importantly, tell me why. I know a mini-me with the B2 is easy, I know the Y7 only has one oil port. Help me figure out what to do with that.

I’d do the D16Z6 since you have the engine and ECU and it’s OBD-1.
You can do the no notch rods and vitara pistons, but you could also get rods that require notching and forged pistons for several hundred more dollars.
Decide on a horsepower goal and match the turbo set up to that goal.

I've only got the z6 head, but I was thinking of slapping it onto a y7 block since that seems to be popular for similar builds.

Realistically, I'd like to over-engineer it instead of under-doing it. I think 500hp is achievable but I don't know that it would be comfortable - 300 is probably a better objective for now.

Y7 block and Z6 head with the EX trans would be a good combo. I waited about 3 months for the Speedfactory rods and caught them on sale and have been happy with them. The Skunk2 Alpha ZC rods are a bit thicker and supposedly handle more power but require notching. They are about the same price but I didn't want to notch the block or girdle.

500hp is achievable if you do sleeves. I’m getting a d16z6 built right now and I have a goal of 500 on race gas. It is possible.

Right. If you only want 300-350hp that’s the easiest way.

Actually intrigued by that D15b7 long rod/vitara combo, prob minimal power loss and different. I'd work the z6 head and slap it on the b2 block just to tell people I gapped them w a D15.

you don't need iron sleeves to make 500+

Sounds like you have more money than skills...if you need to have a motor built. To each, their own.
