Engine replacements
I am sending an SOS to ANYONE who can help me. I have a 94 DX coupe and I need an engine that can bolt up to my D series 5 speed and be plug and play that I might be able to fine at a junkyard. No I'm not going to out a b series (unless it bolts in and plug in) and I can't change tranny's or anything because I don't have the time, need to be done in 2 maybe 3 days tops. Thanks!
94 DX plug and play (fully plug and play) is only the D15B7. All others will require some modification or another. Most all of the D series will bolt up to the transmission but there are other changes that need to take place for them to run properly.
Well I had replaced the D15B with a D15B2 both with the D16A6 head and everything was fully plug and play, I just had a chip in the head that leaked coolant into cylinder 2 and popped the rod
D15B2 is the same as the D15B7, just used different injection so you\ll want to keep your full intake manifold from the B7. The D15B, depends on which one of 4 or 5 variants, one of them is the same as the D15B7. The D16A6 however is not plug and play like you think. The P06 ECU was running it a bit lean and over time, you would have found out.
You won't likely see many D15B's in the junk yard and I forgot to go earlier generations, was thinking 92+. So yes you have the choice of D15B7 and D15B2 for straight plug and play that you should see prevalent in junk yards.

The only plug and play engine is 92-95 civic DX engine. Any others will require changes such as the ECU.
You might want to consider an engine rebuild because the exact engine is difficult to find. That would allow you to get upgraded parts for more durability, rather than a high mileage used engine.

Are the D15B7's hard to find in the states? They are quite prevalent here in Canada. Probably because the CX and DX and LX had them here where only the DX and LX had them there.
Also, as stated, the D15B2 is the exact same motor, same block, same pistons, same rods, same 16 valve head. The only thing that was different was the fuel delivery. So, you just have to keep the intake manifold with fuel rail from the old motor to slap onto the B2 and you now have the B7 labelled as a B2.
