I am looking for some advise. I wondering if I should replace the control arm bushing. See pictures. Car isn't driven much anymore. I use it to mostly to drive my dog around (lol). I bought another car about 3 years back and I only put on about 25k KM on this in the last 3 years. I like having a 2nd car as it is very handy for the family, so I would like to prolong the life since it works very well with little maintenance.
How the car driver:
Highway drive feel good.
Low speed cornering feels stable not clicks or knocks
The steering does not feel loose or uneasy in anyway.
Occasionally I here a clunk/click when I come to complete stop. It happens very rarely. I think it might be a the strut mount (but replaced these about 1 year ago). Can't tell just yet because it happen so little. Sometime weeks/months go by and I don't hear it.
Car details
Civic 2007 1.8L DX
168k KM on it.
I have owned the car for about 5 year and I put on 68k KM
With that much rust, might as well replace the whole arm and not just the bushings...probably easier too.
I live in Canada parts rust out very easy. The rust is just surface rust so very superficial. I'm not concerned about the structural integrity of the arm it self.
For example the front driver CV axel shaft was replaced 2 years ago and it looks just like this.
I was the car in the winter and it's rust coated by krown every winter.
Canadian road have a crap ton of salt where I live.
Overall I am not worried about the rust.
Probably not a bad idea to swap out the control arm bushings but definitely give it a good clean once they are out. It could be PITA if you don't have a shop press, but if you do, it'll be pretty easy. While you're at it, might as well replace the swap bark linkage, ball joints, and the other bushing that is on the control arm (I forget what it's called)
I did all this to my '11 civic si about a year ago and it went pretty smooth, other than getting the bushings out and pressing them back in. I had to get a shop to do it for me.
