'98 crv: instructions for interior disassembly
hello there,
tried on another crv forum to get some help with this, but nothing's happening
the common wet floor board on the driver's side! came to me like this and neither the previous owner nor I have been able to locate the source of the leak. i removed the cowl and the drain channel is not clogged. so, i have some ideas of where to look next, but i need to start taking stuff apart to have a look. i just don't want to start on it and have things break. you know the score.
i'm going to start by getting the driver's seat out. then, i need to get the inside trim around the door jam and kick panel out and perhaps take the front driver's side quarter panel off. i have an online manual loaded, but it's not very descriptive in procedure. is there a write up on this forum? can someone maybe offer where and how to begin? any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

That's the only thing I could find. I'd take a look at some parts diagrams just to see what fasteners hold things together and YouTube vids. That seems to be a common issue with the 1st gen CRVs, but I see videos removing the cowl and dealing with the hvac re-circulation box. Yours sounds like a different problem though.
Where is your leak?
Probably similar to this one:

as for the leak source, i've read that thread you linked before i signed up here. mine's different, though it appears to be a common area. i poured water down the cowl drain, watched it exit from behind the fender, and then come in to the cab through the metal seams from behind the kick panel. not sure on the fix. won't know what to do until i get the plastic fender liner down to see exactly how it's getting in

it appears my leak has been coming through the hole behind the fender where the hood release cable runs. as i recall, the previous owner/my friend had the cable replaced several years ago. so, whoever did the job didn't reinstall the boot seal the cable runs through. it was pushed in through the hole to the inside leaving a nickel sized opening for any rain draining from the cowl to just pour right into the cab. <<sigh>>. the boot seal is still in great shape, so i reinstalled it and, for good measure, ran a bead of polyurethane around it. rain coming in late tonight through tomorrow. test run coming up
