Default Timing belt issue

Hi!

I have a bluetop h23a vtec in a 5th gen prelude. Iam having issues with the timing belt literally touching the engine, the block etc.

To clarify on things, we’ve swapped over all h22a4 needed items from a new gates timing belt kit -water pump- all gears- automatic tensioner (will be swapped out with a kstuned on asap) h22a4 belt (not from the kit, but still brand new) etc etc.

problem is when all is said and done, the belt walks TOWARDS the engine, not away.

with all physical components checked out and nothing is bent, everything is aligned, what could it be down to? Iam thinking the automatic tensioner isn’t installed correctly, or somehow the belt length isn’t right.

id appreciate the insight as we’ve pulled this thing apart about 4 times now and iam getting pretty annoyed as everything is done and operational except for this issue.

Never ever, ever use an aftermarket timing belt. It is probably the most important part of an engine and no aftermarket part is going to match the quality of Honda.

I'm going to guess that something hasn't been torqued correctly which is causing your belt to misalign or something on your crankshaft has warped or both.

if anything, I’d be leaning towards the torque. Nothing should be warped, the engine was tested before shipped to me from a reputable supplier.
but if something was warped/not torqued right, you’d be able to tell visually due to wobbling, no?

also yeah, I was hesitant with the belt, it’s what the supplier only had to offer at the time since no gates. Iam going to try and pick up a oem one.

to clarify, we torqued it to spec from the manual itself.

For warped then yes you would see something wobbling but not always for something that is not tight enough. Something can be lose but still spin straight because it is being held in by a shaft.

Ah right. Well either something the belt is attached to is moving in and out or there is something wrong with the belt.

I don't know what greddy is but I do know that Gates belts are made in China and that Chinese quality is not as good as Japanese quality which is where Honda timing belts are made. I would not risk it.

The OEM timing belts are manufactured by Gates for Honda, so that's definitely not true.

Not Prelude ones... they were produced by UNITTA or Continental.

so I bought an OEM belt from the dealership. We torqued everything to 100% check. Swing bolt, torqued to spec, everything...still touching the engine. Iam losing my mind.
