Just Bought A 99 Civic and its a mess. HELP!!
Hello, I just recently purchased a 99 Honda civic LX. Upon further inspection I have found that the motor installed in the car is a D15B8 so that sucks buuut, I need the car to pass emissions and there's a check engine light for P1509. Im wondering if this has something to do with the fact the motor isn't correct and maybe the ECU isn't correct and thats causing the issue? Any ideas or things to look for, or what is needed to make this swap correct would be greatly appreciated. I've done research but no one swaps this garbage motor into a newer than 98 civic because I belive its an obd1 and the 99 is an OBD2. Anyway thank you for any help or insight.
It's totally possible to wire obd 2 cars to work with obd 1 engines and ECUs but it's a big project. You might be in for quite the experience. Though if you succeed you'll have become a wiring guru and be able to handle any kind of wiring problems in the future.
Honestly sounds like you got screwed. Might need a stock ECU for that engine. But your first step should be to identify the ECU itself. There are tons of pics floating around here you can compare it to in order to find out what it is without needing to ask in a new thread. Unless it's some kind of custom ECU.
If your not prepared for a big project, sell/trade the car. But be honest about it. Else your just passing your own personal problems on to others, same as the original owner did to you.
And that didn't feel nice did it?
Don't mind Tom. They are not always friendly or helpful. But can be when they choose to apply themselves.
Good luck!
