Is it worth the $
Is it worth the $ to have my 2000 Civic taken in to retrhead a bolt hole for the motor mount .... I can't retrhead because the area is to tight an area . No room to tap . So I'm thinking, the only way possible is to have the engine lifted . I'm not sure on what to do .??? Would love any feedback. Another thing to mention is I have to replace my transmission mount also . I have the parts .so I just need to get a hole rethreaded and the the mounts remounted. What would be the price I would be looking at having a shop do the work ? And is it worth it?
I never use shops, to many crappy experiences with em. So I can't give you a range of what they would cost.
But quotes are generally free, so go ask em silly. Or call and ask.
Now as far as doing it yourself? There are several ways. Civic engines hardly weigh more than 500 pounds at the heaviest. Keeping that in mind.
The easiest and most basic way would be to use a folding/standing hand pumped pnumatic hoist, 150-300 brand new.
For about 50-150 you can get manual hanging lifts, but they will take some work to set up as you gotta have something strong enough to hang em from.
And actually, strangely enough, it looks like rail mounted powered hanging lifts are pretty cheap as well?!? I've no experience with those though.
An engine hoist is a handy thing to have.
And if you do pull the engine yourself, you will get a very good chance to clean and inspect it before popping it back in.
In the end, depends on how much you like the car.
