Manually closing the moonroof on a 2009 Honda Civic EX
Hi,
I've got a 2009 Honda Civic EX, and the moonroof doesn't work anymore (except the tilt feature). Normally, I'd just leave it closed and not worry about it, but it turns out that it is not completely closed and leaks water through the cracks when it rains. I've seen some posts about manually closing moonroofs on other Honda models. Can anyone walk me through how I could do so for my year and model in particular?
Re: Manually closing the moonroof on a 2009 Honda Civic EX
First, try resetting the moonroof control unit.
1. Close driver’s door, leave it closed during the whole procedure.
2. Turn ignition to LOCK (0).
3. Press and hold the tilt switch, and turn ignition to ON (II).
4. Release the tilt switch, and turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 four times.
6. Press and hold the moonroof open switch for at least 3 additional seconds after the moonroof is fully opened.
7. Press and hold the moonroof close switch for at least 3 additional seconds after the moonrood is fully closed (tilted).
8. Confirm that the moonroof control unit is reset by using the moonroof AUTO OPEN and AUTO CLOSE function.

First, thank you! So I tried this, and the moonroof still doesn't even open, meaning I can't get past set 6. I don't really care about making the moonroof work anymore. I just want it to shut and seal properly and stay shut. I've seen posts about manually shutting the moonroof for other models using an Allen wrench on the motor. Does anyone know how to do this for a 2009 Honda Civic?

Normally to remove the roof liner, a lot of things need to remove first, such as grab handles, pillar panels, sunvisors, etc. However, you may able to just gently pull down the rear part of the roof liner to access the moonroof control unit to use a hex key to manually turn it close (see post #13 in this other thread regarding an Accord).
