Default D17a1 to jdm d15b vtec wiring.

I’m fixing to drop in a replacement 04-05 jdm d15b vtec engine in place of my tired d17a1 in my 2005 Honda Civic lx. I have the d17a1 harness already on the new engine, plug and play. Will my d17a1 ecu allow me to wire in vtec? If so, can anyone guide me in the right direction as to how to do it (wiring diagram or personal experience)? I searched but to no avail. It’s seems hard to find any sort of information on 04-05 d15bs.

You will likely need a different ECM/PCM, like the one from an EX which has VTEC.

Your ECM/PCM for the D17A1 most likely doesn't have the terminal pins at no. 9 and 15 of Connector B, related to the VTEC oil pressure switch and the VTEC solenoid valve.

Ok, thank you for your reply. That’s a shame, I thought the ecu already had vtec, it just wasn’t wired from it to the solenoid. Well, at least ecus aren’t terribly expensive. Can a Honda dealer flash my keys to an ex ecu?

Or (I hate to say this) but can a vtec controller enable vtec? I wouldn’t get one to change the engagement point. Just looking for a way other than purchasing an ecu and flashing it. If not, I might just have to do it that way.
