Default 99 CRV. Changed radiator and now crank but no start.

(Videos at bottom of post) 2 days ago I found a crack in my radiator and replaced it. I drove about 20 miles to work the engine was smoking and smelled fumes as I pulled up. On my break I noticed the lower radiator hose came off so I put it back on and tightened the rusty clamp. Everything seemed fine on the drive back home/to Autozone. I bought a new clamp and replaced the antifreeze but when I tried to start the car it wouldn’t turn over. Upon further inspection I noticed there was a hissing noise, like air escaping, from my top radiator hose. It seems the coolant isn’t circulating. And when I went to flush it from the bottom nothing came out so I’m thinking there’s a clog somewhere. Oil is not milky so I don’t think it’s the head gasket. Any ideas what I should check next? Hours of googling has me thinking it’s either the water pump or thermostat causing pressure(cracked radiator and hose blew off) but can those be reasons it won’t turn over?

edit:
Also the car was stolen in July and the guy tried to take the cataclytic converter but failed. Also ran the Autozone check engine light test but it only showed error P0442 which is a small Evac leak.

Should my hose going into thermostat be this gross?:

Hello,

Can you give some more info? Did the engine overheat at any point in this process? Did the car run at all after the radiator was replaced? Did the hose issue occur before or after the radiator was replaced? I doubt you have a clogged radiator. The screw you removed from the underside of the vehicle is not the radiator petcock. That is a mounting bolt of some sort. Petcocks look similar to the image below and they will have an o-ring on them to seal the radiator. As for the P0442 code it could be something simple as a loose gas cap. Check your gas cap to make sure it is on tight.

With the cooling system it may be that its got air that is needing to be bled. That cooling system should be filled and warmed up with the HVAC set to HOT to ensure the heater core is filled and purged of air. This process takes a bit of time.

The upper rad hose will weep in the webbing over time thats not unusaul and if the engine is hot the rad hose will be under 15PSI so it well be hard to squeeze. If it isn't thats a problem or the rad cap is loose. If there is a hissing sound at a hose that's an actually leak ( not to be confused with refrigerant bleed down if the A/C compressor was engaged when the engine was shut down ..as refrigerant will pass through the orifice tube into the evaporator and make a hissing noise for 30 seconds or so at shutdown) .

IF the engine was overheated and driven its possible the head gasket is breeched. This will pump air quickly into the cooling system and it can force coolant out the tailpipe. This will make the rad hosed hard as well but in seconds of running not slowly as in a normal cooling system. If the head gasket is failed, coolant will bubble out the rad cap quickly as the engine warms up with the cap off

But the engine should still start.
Verify the timing belt isnt broken ...check that your cams are still turning.... get someone to crank the engine as you peer into the valvecover with a flashlight through the oil fill hole and make sure the cams turn...or pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is turning.

Check for spark and fuel pressure after that.
Your oil level looked high . It should be between the two holes ; in the operating range. I would double check that.
The lower hose connection looks like theres a slow coolant leak at the housing . If you remove the airbox at stuff its east to get to.
Download a service manual ..you can find them for free for furst gen CRVs . It will save you search constantly on you tub etc.

You can see daylight in the bolt hole ...
Thats the mounting bolt for the lower crash bar

Your rad is full.
