Chassis Ear for Noise Diagnostics
2005 CR-V EX AWD I've been trying to track down the source the dreaded front end clunking noise. Inspected front suspension components multiple times, and this weekend I replaced the front sway bar links and bushings at the urging of many, even though they didn't seem defective on inspection. But I don't want to go on a parts swapping journey beyond that. I'm also hearing from a few people that the problem could be actually from a rear end problem (links, differential dampener, struts) even though it sounds like the noise is definitely coming from the rear.
Has anyone had experience with the Chassis Ear or similar systems? They have microphones that can be clamped to various chassis components and make sound recordings during a test drive, supposedly enabling you to pinpoint exactly where a noise is coming from.
It's a little pricey, but so is swapping parts. And swapping parts is incredibly wasteful in both time and money. I've also read about people creating their own sound recording systems at a lower cost that can be clipped or attached to various chassis components.
