Does anyone know what the red wire going from the clock spring / cable reel into the resume/set buttons is? It is the only wire that doesn't come out both sides of the clock spring. I looked at the wiring diagrams but didn't see a solid red wire. I'm trying to bypass the clock spring and I'm not sure what it should be attached to. Thanks in advance.
99 civic ex coupe manual
Green and yellow wires go to the airbag (which is no longer in the car)
Brown wire goes to the horn
Red, blue, and gray go into the set/resume switch

There is a curious project going on here, what with the wires leading into a box that appears to be also covered in Christmas wrapping paper.
We'll need to know about your vehicle though to provide any assistance. Also, "bypassing the clock spring" isn't something you can do and still have functional cruise and horn, but I assume you're not removing the clock spring altogether.
What do the other wires do? That will clue me in by process of elimination.
@deschlong it's a 99 civic ex coupe manual transmission - green and yellow wires go to the airbag (no longer in car); brown goes to the horn; red, blue, and gray go into the resume/set switch for cruise.
yeah, the Christmas box was to somewhat protect the clock spring which has been under my dash for the past 6 years, I poked holes in the box and ran zip ties through it to mount it (My factory steering wheel had seen better days so I replaced it with an aftermarket wheel and the clock spring wouldn't fit).
Cruise and horn worked for years but the cruise stopped working a few months ago. It doesn't seem to be a fuse, the module, set/resume switch, main cruise button, or the servo. Since I don't actually need the clock spring to move cuz it's no longer in the steering column I figured I'd just bypass it and basically turn it into a harness but one side of the clock spring has 6 wires and the other side only has 5. I don't know what to attach the red wire to. Im guessing it's one of three things, first guess is it has something to do with lighting up the cruise light on the gauge cluster, or else it's a power or ground but I honestly don't know.
Sorry about the missing info, I added it into the original post - somehow I erased the vehicle info when I added the pictures but I didn't thing to add what the other wires went to.
Ah, OK. Red is a power wire to the cruise switch that connects to SET/decel or RESUME/accel when the button is pressed. 5 wires enter because the same constant power wire is split off to the horn somewhere along the way internally to the clock spring, hence 6 wires come out.

Awesome, thanks so much!! I'll try attaching it to a power wire when I get off work. Fingers crossed that solves my problem and it's not a broken wire somewhere else.
