Icon4 Engine check code 8 and 9 Issue

Diagnosed my EG4 VTi with engine check code 9 (cylinder sensor) about a few weeks ago and was searching on a couple of forums for a while to see what the next step should be.

Yesterday it just stopped a few meters away from my house. Would not start for the most part, occasionally it did but then it would start kind of coughing up and shut off in a bit. So I got it back home again diagnosed the check engine codes and found out that code 9 disappeared and its now showing code 8 (top dead center sensor) At that point my dad was checking spark plugs and just trying to source the issue without a lot of luck. I started the car again after 30/40 mins, the check engine was gone and the car was sounding healthy as if nothing ever happened. Drove great and did not stop once for the whole day. The check engine was back a bit later at night but the car was still running great.

At this point I'm not sure what to do really, seems like a very temperamental issue and preferably I would get it all sorted out before it happens again. Was thinking about changing the fuel distributor as that seemed like an issue that affects both code 8 and 9, any thoughts?

I would start with checking the mechanical timing, then I would do a compression test. And then I would start investigating the distributor.

Is the EG4 VTi OBD1 engine? I assume it is being you put OBD1 codes up.
