Default 2000 Honda Civic k24 budget track weapon build! (Build in progress)

So firstly id like to apologize about the first thread, I'm still new to the whole forum scene! Seemed crazy that is was closed in 1 day and didn't even get the chance to update it... but what eves! So I guess a little about the car I have owned the vehicle for YEARS and have used it as a daily driver and recently it has just been sitting around for about a year... BUT the racing bug has nibbled on me again! So instead of letting it rot in the back yard I figured hell why not turn it in to track weapon! Sadly I don't have the means to turn it in to a proper track attack monster... BUT I have placed a budget of 4000 (all be it reluctantly because of the wife)! Sooo with that being said I didn't know what drivetrain I wanted to go with... I have experience building some pretty crazy powerful Dseries and Hseries motors but never really played around with Kseries much if not at all.... (even though I owned a 2006 SI) I knew that Dseries were actually very good motors (even though they get alot of hate) and are definitely trackable! but they are limited by revs and power(stock form)... Hseries motors in there stock form are actually VERY powerful and I thought that was the route I wanted to take! even ended up purchasing the motor and mounts! But shortly after purchase a friend of mine wanted sell his 2003 Accord because he blew his clutch and didn't want to fix it (even though I offered to help him install it for free)... So I seized the opportunity and purchased the vehicle for 500! Great news was it came with EVERYTHING required to the swap (minus mounts obviously)... but the bad news was it had over 300k! so the motor was definitely and will need to be rebuilt... So I pulled the motor and threw it on the engine stand, and started tearing in to in! So that's where the build stands now! I will slowly post updates as I move forward with this build! I also have a small youtube channel where I am going to be posting videos and such of the build! PLEASE keep in mind this is my first time doing a Kswap and rebuilding a Kseries motor... If you have any tips or tricks for me PLEASE tell me! I will prob be needing help! So please give it! I hope this thread isn't going to be closed.... And I also hope there is some content here to help anybody wanting to do something similar! THANKS! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE9...Ixye_C_A03PwOg thats the link to the youtube channel I hope you enjoy!

THIS IS THE SHELL AS IT SITS NOW!

OK! So I guess I'll start from the VERY beginning! I purchased the vehicle for 400!

Second day after purchasing the Civic!

Same day

Front shot

So I purchased the vehicle with one goal in mind... Which was to turn it in to a track weapon! So I started working on the suspension! it came lowered from the previous owner with springs... I REALLY LOVE the EM1 Si wheels so I ended up purchasing a set from the local junkyard for $100!
WOAH! I'd have sex with those wheels...

I wanted a little more adjustability but still didn't have a lot of bank to provide so I went with maxspeeding coilovers (basically eBay coilovers) and also went with aluminum LCAs and that brace thing lol! I also really didn't like the idea of drum brakes on a track car so I did a rear disc conversion! I used the trailing arms from a 2000 Intergra! I got it for SUPER cheap cause one of the calipers was frozen solid! I got BOTH FOR 50 BUCKS!! But I ended up getting all new calipers and rotors and bushings costing about 200! Gotta love ebay! So after cleaning up and painting the trailing arms I also went out and got the toe and camber links (also ebay)!

Its Honda it'll still drive!

Installed the coil-overs!

Camber links!

Aluminum LCAs and brace!

After painting the trailing arms and calipers (didn't use those calipers and rotors because they were frozen thought I freed it but didn't)!

Getting ready for install!

INSTALLED!

I'd sex it....

YAY!

SO obviously I installed the front coilovers as well! but my phone had died and I was not really caring LOL

So when I purchased the vehicle the front bumper had a crack at the bottom... so in keeping with the budget theme and not replacing the entire bumper painting and all that noise... I just purchased a lip from ebay a grill and an Si badge! As well as some paint cans that match the paint code of the vehicle.... and went to town!

ewwww SHE UGLY!!

MMMMM SHE SEXY!!

SHE FLEXIN!

So shortly after that I came across some economic hard ship and well just ended up using the vehicle as a daily driver... My wife ended up driving it actually as her daily and she LOVED IT(surprisingly)!! Any who... as time went on and my economic hard ship ended I was able to then purchase a car for my wife! A 2012 Honda FIT!! So I adopted the Civic as my daily and that went on for months... but then I started to get the ITCH to build it again! So I ended up purchasing another 2009 Honda Fit for me as a DD and started hunting again for a drivetrain! I had a friend put me on a dude that had an H22 and trans! I talked to him and ended up getting a crazy good deal! I got the Hseries and trans AND A 1996 HATCH for 500!! I couldn't make this up if I tried! I went to purchase the motor and he says if you buy it ill give you the hatch I was gonna put it in... I was like UMMMMMMM OK!!! Anyways I ended up putting the Coupe on the back burner for a couple of months as a built the hatch... I will have a thread for that as well!! But this is neither the time nor the place for that project.....

THE HATCH IN ALL ITS BOOSTED AND ZIPTIED GLORY

So after selling the hatch with out having accomplished what I wanted to accomplish with it.... I turn my sights to the coupe yet again! Enter my friend! lol He called me and told me that his Accords clutch went out... I was like that sucks but it a pretty easy job may only take a weekend! He said NAH... Im gonna get a newer vehicle and am just gonna sell this thing for 500... So I was like in that case... I'LL TAKE IT!!

Me and friend getting the Accord to my house!

FINALLY HOME!

K24A4+5speed equals me wanting to sex...

The Accord with the Civic!

Ok so after removing the charge harness I started removing the engine harness! No real surprises here... some clips broke but being almost 20 years old its understandable!

Started with the fuel injectors connectors

Then I removed the bolt holding the harness to the manifold and removed all the connectors on the throttle body ie MAP TPS IAC ETC..

This is the connector that goes to the charge harness it was actually quite difficult to get off with out breaking it but it came off!

Then I went to the Egr all the stupid emissions bull... and the coolant temp sensor!

After the emissions bull I moved to the cam angle sensors the exhaust one was at a weird angle... but came off with some tough love!

after removing the cover I unpluged all the coil packs and the harness just pulled up!

Vtec solenoid plugs removed!

Then removed the VTC connector and crank shaft position sensor connector and BAM engine harness IS OUT!!!

Well after the harness was removed I went on to remove all the hoses, coolant vacuum etc.

all coolant vacuum and emissions poop were removed!

THEN.... I went on to remove the Exhaust manifold! The exhaust manifold is trash because it can't be used with the K24 and Ek shell... From all the research I have done you have to buy a Kswap header! IDK which company is gonna take my money yet lol I'm hoping to find a used set! If you have a used Kswap header for an EK HIT ME UP! LOL

So this piece will be thrown in the garbage like my slutty ex-girlfriend

This mounting bracket is held on by 2 14mm bolts! after removing I put the bold back in and tightened them down in the block because I don't believe the new swap header will come with such a bracket!

Now using a 14mm 1/2 with a breaker bar I broke the bolts loose! Then removed them and removed the header!

this was my final product! I was surprised at how clean it was for having over 300k! Also the gaskets are reusable and i believe I will reuse it if the new swap header doesn't come with a new gasket! BUDGET!!!

SO after taking the stock header out and tossing it I went and took a massive chipotle sized dump, and started working on taking the accessories off!

Using a breaker bar and 14mm I was able to pull the tensioner back and remove the belt!

The power steering pump was removed using 2 12mm bolts! I saved the bolt because I will be using an EP3 idler pulley that uses those same bolts..... I THINK 😁

The alternator (flux capacitor) was held on by 3 12mm bolts! BUT DANG WERE THEY ON THERE!

The A/C Compressor was also STUCK THE LIKE A @#$! But again tough love using a 12mm and a breaker bar did the trick! I will not be using ac for obvious reasons namely TRACK BUILD... LOL also to help reduce weight my fat a$$ needs to be put on a diet...

I removed the AC bracket as well cause once the engine is out im going to clean off and paint the black FORD RACING BLUE YEEHAAA!!! They were 14mm in case you were wondering 😂

Just bad timing I'd say. I got up for work early this morning, quickly checked the forum and found your thread/post talking build and the post was just "hi". We get enough trolls, spammers and improper advertisers that I acted accordingly. I had hoped your thread was legit and that you'd start a new one with content when I closed it.

I'm glad you did.

Being able to transplant everything out of that accord must be pretty sweet. As for the header, if you're looking to save a bit of money, it seems that the TSX header is a very close fit. Been looking into the same thing for my car as a decent stainless swap header is in the range of 5-600 bucks. People on the k20a forum say that it bolts up but sits a bit low. If you look at the pictures of aftermarket ones and compare th two, they're very close in terms of shape. The primary difference is the vertical distance between the two bends. The swap header is shorter. I reckon if you shorten the vertical length of the downpipe on the USDM TSX, it should fit pretty well.

This build really reminds me of the NDF EM1 really early on. Looks like this now. I look forward to seeing how this one will evolve over time

HEY! Thanks yall! Ya I would LOVE for it to evolve in to something that sick btw! But baby steps I guess LOL

SOOOO moving forward on the the K24 teardown after removing the bottom A/C bracket

The Bracket holding the intake to the block needed to be removed those are 2 12 mm bolt!

Removed this valve NO CLUE WHAT IT IS 😂 but it was held on by 1 10mm bolt!

After removing that valve I started to remove the intake manifold bolts on the top they were 4 12mm...

They were REALLY tight... Something Sasha grey can't say... so I had to link wrenches in order to break em!

The final one I could get a 12mm wrench on... so i had to actually use a 1/4 ratchet and a deep well Came out prudy easy!

5 Total bolts to remove the top half they are 12mm

I was really surprised about the condition of the gaskets.... they really look good! I would have thought they would be damn near disintegrating after 300k! BUT anyways then I removed the lower 12mm bolts holding the second half on the manifold

Then I remove that hose that rant to the intake... using channel locks... IT WAS STUCK AF! but after some tough love it came loose!

SOOOO ye... cross over pipe was removed with a 12mm

Also this 10mm was holding it on!

After removing the 2 bolts holding the cross over pipe the water pump housing can be removed!

After removing the 4 bolts holding on the housing which were 14mm and torqued on by hercules or the hulk... not positive who honda had working for them at the time...

The cover was still stuck on with the sealant of the gods Hondabond so using a small screw driver I was able to pry it loose

THATS WHAT I WAS LEFT WITH!

So what is your goal with this engine?

Road and track car? Are you loooking to just build it solid with forged pistons and such? Or add a turbo?
Or just clean it up with new rings and such and then go run it at the track?
What track do you run at?

WELL THANKS! Sorry I'm still new to forums so I don't know how to put a reply in... (no wonder my wife calls me stupid) But to answer yalls questions this being my first K series teardown and rebuild I really didn't want to go crazy with it! So I was thinking just freshen it up.... but with a

twist! I'm thinking about switching over to a RSX oil pump and studding the motor with arp head studs and maybe a RBC manifold. Then again I haven't decided on that... What are yalls thoughts? Just keep in mind I really wanted to make it as budget as possible! LOL So for this build I really

wanted to make it in to a pure track machine... the only road use it will see is heading to the track and back! lol Then again I was at a meet literally this weekend and a dude had a SICK EM1 Kswaped and had full interior that was clean and I actually liked it! Is my indecisiveness showing yet??

BUT one thing I am sure of is that I will be ATTACKING VIR!! Seeing as that's the nearest track to me! So Full tilt not really sure what you mean by STL.... sorry remember I'm an idiot lol but if your referring to St. Louis more then likely not because I'm from VA so that would be a bit of hike for me!

STL is a racing class within the SCCA rules. Since you are building a K24, so you wouldn't actually qualify for STL. You would in fact be in the STU class because of your displacement.

ahhhh I see! Lol thanks for clarifying! I was just gonna use it as a weekend track toy is all.... wasnt really thinking about full on competition use... although no one really knows what the future holds! (I'd have to lose more weight then the car &#128518

OK SOOOOO BACK AT IT AGAIN!!! After removing the water pump housing thing I removed the starter!

STARTER=OUTTA HERE so it's held on by 2 bolts one screwed GITTY in the trans the other actually screws gitty in the block they were both 14mm

so this EGR and coolant mess of a contraption was next to go 4 12mm bolts held it on... So you can reuse this.. but i believe a tsx one doesn't have an egr valve... but I could be wrong!

So I didn't remove these sensors... but i did unbolt and move them because they are in the way of the bold holding the rockers on

I also removed the coolent temp sensor as well using a 19mm...

Up next was the VTAKKKKK YO solenoid that was removed with 3 10mm bolt on the front... there was a 10mm on the side but all that does is hold the shield in place!

Well.... this made my heart drop.. I found metal residue in the screen on the gasket...

broken hearted I then removed the VTC solenoid... it was held on by 1 12mm bolt...

Yet again... metal... its weird because the motor wasn't knocking sounded great actually and ran smooth... huh... WHY GOD honestly at this point I was just praying the crank was ok... and that it was normal wear and tear for 300k
