D16y8 No start, has fuel/spark/compression
2000 Civic ex/5spd Sat for about a month without being started because of snow, went to start it up the other day and it cranked for a good 30-45 seconds before it started. Had a bad miss about 2500rpm and died after about 5 miles. Acted like a distributor issue and was still under warranty so I got a new distributor for it, started and ran for about 20 minutes, shut it off and wouldn't start back. Was able to roll it off after it cooled down and started and drove it back to my shop. Since then I've not been able to get it started again. Had kinda weak spark so exchanged for another distributor and cleaned up the pcm/distributor ground and now have a very strong spark, 120psi dry/150psi wet compression on all cylinders, has fuel pressure and injector drive, plugs are getting plenty wet with fuel, already checked timing marks multiple times. Sounds like it's out of time or the ignition timing is way out when it's cranking. Plugged in a different pcm with no change, only thing that hasn't been changed is the crank sensor but it reads on the scanner and has spark. Going to scope the crank sensor next but I don't think that's going to be the issue since it has spark. I have no idea why it doesn't run, has everything it needs and before being parked for about a month it was running fine. Is there anything else on these cars that would cause this? It seems like the ignition timing is way off or something, compression is a little on the low side of honda specs but car has 230k on it and it still has plenty enough to run. Don't understand what it's missing.
I would say your timing belt jumped a tooth or so.That's where I would start and if you redo the belt make sure timing marks are correct on the compression stroke.
Timing was spot on. Turned out to be the cap and rotor, would have perfect spark when checking one plug at a time but if you took out all 4 plugs and grounded all 4 and had someone else crank it the spark would be erratic and inconsistent. Cap wasnt even a year old and had no visible failures.
Is the fuel pump priming when you turn the key to "on" before you turn the key to "start"? You should be able to hear it.
If it was working fine before you left it sitting for a month then I would think your timing is ok, I don't see how it would have changed.
Maybe your gas went bad after sitting for a month? Clogged fuel filter maybe-when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?
Are there any check engine lights on?
