Default 1996 Accord starts and then cuts out

Hi all I have just bought a 1996 Honda Accord SV4 h22a 2.2 DOHC Vtec Automatic
The car starts up first time ok but then when putting it into D and trying to drive off most times just cuts out, then most times starts again ok but when slowing down most times cuts out.
Sometimes it will take a few turns to start. I have read that it could be many things, Distributor, Ignition, etc,
Im not a mechanic but can do regular services.

Any suggestions on what it may be and whats worth trying?

My first guess would be idle air control valve needs to be cleaned, replaced, or has oil leaking from that area.

I know this is not the exact picture of your year car, but it's what I found to show where it should be approximately.

Thanks @99stockcivic will look at that tomorrow, what would you suggest after that? I would like to try and eliminate a few possibilities

Sure, I mean, check the basics. pull the plugs and inspect if the gap is now too big from old plugs being worn out, check spark plug wires for cracks, check distributor cap for wear marks. Pull one plug and keep it connected, and check it's spark (have someone crank while you look at it, should be a bright spark, not weak). Overall, changing the plugs, wires, cap and rotor seems pretty inexpensive and simple to get that out of the way.

that's just as likely if you have not done the maintenance in a while.
