97 accord lx 242,000 miles
I bought this car recently and love it (my 3rd one so far) but i have a few nagging issues. Valve chatter is BAD! Adjusted valves , not much difference. Also losing coolant in combustion chamber and going to change head gasket as well as timing belt and water pump this weekend. Engine loses power when warmed up but still runs fairly well. Noticed pretty severe scaring on camshaft so will probably replace as well. Good compression on cylinders. So my question is will doing a rework on the head amd making above mentioned repairs increase my odds of getting a good bit more miles on it?
It's a possibility. Sounds like it wasn't maintained very well.
The "valve chatter" could also be piston slap. These engines tend to develop some piston slap with high mileage. Generally it will get quieter as it warms up if that's the case.
