D15Z6 (European version) Trouble understanding EGR SYSTEM

I have a D15Z6 (european version) CIVIC 1996 which is the equivalent of / or at least similiar to the D16Y5 more known to the US audience. I downloaded the service manual which helped me a lot to understand systems in general and how my cars works. But i have trouble understanding how the EGR mechanism works as a whole precisely. I understand the concept but can't pinpoint in my engine bay how the exhaust gases get to the EGR VALVE. IS there a passage built IN THE ENGINE BLOC/CYLINDER HEAD from exhaust pipes to the EGR VALVE ? I have the diagram but still have trouble to understand.
