Default 2009 Accord - Aftermarket radio install, climate controls dead

I have a 2009 EX-L with dual zone climate control and navigation, and I'm trying to install a new head unit.

I used the Metra dash kit to install a Sony AVX8000, and used
this crux adapter this crux adapter
and its wiring harness to connect everything.

I powered it up the first time, and realized I had no climate control. I realized that you have to leave the stock unit connected to maintain climate control. Ok, no problem, I install the grey box from the factory dash unit above the Sony and connect all of those spare plugs.

The Sony powers on, but other than that, nothing works. I have three problems.

1) The climate controls are now permanently dead. A few of the buttons light up, but they don't function, and the tiny screen at the top with the clock and dual zone temperatures is completely dark. I even took out the Sony and replaced everything back to the way it was, and it still doesn't work. Did I fry my climate control unit? How??

2) I am getting zero output from the Sony to the speakers. I know this amp works, and I have triple-checked the crux wiring harness with the Honda pinout diagrams, it is 100% correct.

3) The steering wheel controls are all messed up. The mode button is volume up, the volume up button is the mute control, etc. and I am 100% sure the DIP switches on the crux adapter are configured correctly.

I am afraid I fried my climate control unit, but I don't understand how that's possible, and I'm unsure of where to go from here.

First check driver side under-dash fuse no. 16 (7.5A).

If it is blown, there are a few spare fuses on the back of the under-hood fuse box cover.

Yes, I've checked, all fuses are intact. I even took out and replaced 15 & 16 to see if a power cycle would reset anything, no dice.
