I have a 97 Civic and am attempting to swap a (2000 or 2001) b18c1 that came with an OBD2b P72-A05 ECU. I am wondering if i can by pass the immobilizer if i get a P72-A03 ECU. Not sure the year of the car the P72-A03 came out of, but will it work for my desired swap with no modification?

AND WHAT THE HELL DOES "CHIPPED" MEAN???? used in the term of a CHIPPED ECU.

 

Find a 1996-1999 Integra GSR ECU and it will plug right into your '97 Civic engine harness ECU plugs... and NO Immobilizer to deal with. This ECU will run a 2000-01 B18C1 perfectly.

 

The part number for the '96-99 B18C1 ECU is 37820-P72-A02 to A04.

 

Chipped usually means part of the ECU is socketed to have an extra "chip" inserted/plugged into a spot on the ECU, or soldered into the ECU. If you look at the Hondata website, it has a few examples of "chipped" ECUs. https://www.hondata.com/s100 The S100 is an older system from Hondata that had a chip in the ECU. The S200 used an external blue box that was easier access for tuning, but still plugged into a "chip"/socket on the main ECU board (I think it's called a motherboard, not sure though). The S300, which is the latest Hondata, is something I haven't used, but it looks like the same concept. It's a larger "chip" that has more features. Those Hondata "chips" are all meant for OBD-1 which your car doesn't have. You have OBD-2 so to use a "chipped" ECU, most of them are for OBD-1. So you would have to use a harness that is meant for converting OBD-2 to OBD-1, then use an OBD-1 ECU. That's also an option for you.
I think you can use the older 96-98 GSR ECU for you swap to be plug and play. Ideally you could get a 1998 ECU because I think that is OBD-2a or OBD-2b, but doesn't have the immobilizer (I think immobilizer is in 1999 and newer Hondas). I don't know if it matters if it's OBD2 (96-97) or OBD2a(I forget which years but I think 98,99) or OBD2b (I forget but I think OBD2b is 2000 and newer). Someone else probably has this info.
Or do the OBD-2 To OBD-1 jumper/conversion harness, and an OBD-1 ECU/computer.
