Default P1259 Giving Me Grief

I have a 2001 Civic EX Sedan that’s completely stock. I keep having a P1259 code come back.

First time it came on I checked the oil level and it was low. Changed the oil and filter and cleared the code. Came right back on the next day

Ohmed the VTEC oil pressure switch and it was slightly out of spec so I replaced it and cleared the code. Came back the next day

Pulled the VTEC solenoid and replaced it with a new one I had laying around just to see what would happen and cleared the code. Came back the next day.

Checked the bolt in the rocker arm assembly that sometimes can come loose or fall out entirely causing a loss of oil pressure to the VTEC solenoid and it was in and tight.

Last thing I did was followed AllData’s diag chart and got to checking for continuity with the VTEC solenoid wire jumped to ground and the pin at the ECM and it had almost 200ohms so I ran an entirely new wire and it ohmed at almost 1 ohm. Cleared the code and the car drove fine for about 3 days and then it came on again. I’m literally pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Anyone got any ideas?

Get a Japanese external electronic vtec controller and put a sticker over your CEL.

But in all seriousness, VTEC is oil pressure controlled. Try thicker oil or if high heat is causing the oil to thin out, get a oil cooler. As a last resort, look into a new oil pump and pickup tube.

I’ve got 10w-30 in there now so maybe I’ll try some 15w-40 next oil change
