Hey all Happy Holidays & thanks for taking the time to stop by for a quick/not so quick peek at what I've got going on.
Presently:
Just a week ago I went home for just two weeks again tore the engine apart, honed/deglazed, cleaned it up a nice coffee filters clean, measured cylinders spent a few days looking/waiting for parts but figured it out locally measured ring gaps, piston to wall clearance, made machine shop visits to get the pistons pressed on and off the factory rods and advice on what items may need to be addressed later given the time frame I had and ended up with the following being the parts list when I left.

- Has anyone personally had any issues with the lack of harmonic dampening causing premature oil pump failure. I've read but haven't really seen a post where one said it was directly related. The ones I have seen are people putting the incorrect engine series dampners just because its lighter and fit or somethingalong those lines. However by the same token, I've read about people having success with them.
I'm definitely popping off the valve cover when I get back but if you all have any recommendations on what that could be ( I'm thinking LMA) or any other recommendations on parts I'm all for it. This is the first Honda I've personally actually getting to build for myself and not a buddies. Plan currently just to have something fun I can DD and won't have to many reliability issues.

Hey all just looking to update know it's been quite sometime but I certainly haven't gotten rid of my baby. Made a bit of progress since last time.
So it begins.... Made sure to take advantage of the engine bay as a free engine stand. At this point i disassembled the block bore gauged the cylinders, took a block hone to them freshened up the crosshatch, measured the pistons, ring gaps, weight, rod bearing clarances/color of the factory bearings, replaced those with acls and then moved onto the head. Disassembled the head, at this point in the build i didn't take it to the mahine shop, i prepped by cleaning and blowing ever oil orifice in the head and cap making sure they were clean and clear new gaskets /Vtec O-ring and friend (dowel lets say) and seals for cam. Picked up a nown good GSR LSD Transmission cleaned it up, painted, replaced axle seals, upon install used OEM tranny Fluid & ugraded the linkage with poly bushing a Tyrannosaurus b*tch pin fix. Super solid in my opinion. Derlin parts kinda a pain to install but the feel was well worth it. Here lies the rest of my parts at the time, dampner, ultra intake, susension parts, diyexhaust system, brakes, etc. (parts list Oct 22; below) Motor all put together and wating for the rest of the car to get attention. But not before taking advantage of a rotary tool burrs and a press(Thank You Nick!) to port the intake manifold and clean up the runners and popping it back on. Used a small ball hone and extended burr to deburr the runners and smooth things out just a bit not to to much. Carcass of the car courtesy of aid from my pops and extended Family aka my brotha from another motha. Them in action. Prepping body and engine bay for paint. Engine bay after etching primer, primer and paint no sand no buff right on to the next step. Drop in time! Putting her heart right back where it belongs. While on the engine stand she spun around and cracked my alpha T so I had to resort to a sticky Blox but up till now I haven't had an issue personally. Didn't like this open space, so I ran to good O'le Home Depot and come up with a resolution. Armed ith some flatbar, harbor freight welder and time fabbed up a holder for my catch can. Not my best weld but hey got the job done. Cleaned up the welds, some etch, and aint and on she went with some improvised vibration protection and mounting hardware. Much better! Old man giving her some final rouches before paint. Fresh out no buff no cut. On my buddies trailer after a series of events and shenanigans.
A series of events being that the last person wasn't so honest bout what was in the head in terms of hardware and dropping of a valve after it snapped in the head after seeing that the entire set of springs was really not anything that was said to be there. Hmmm something just doesnt look right
That said
(My valve on the right, bddies piston on the left) I was honestly super happy when i added oil to the ctlinder and the compression didnt go up letring me know it was a valve and not that I had suddenly dropped a cylinder due to a bad hone job by yours truly
Also unbeknownst to me were the other 6 valves that were bent in the head just slightly. This one broke a guide and I'm glad it didn't score a wall. Sadly enough a machine shop that won't be named went ahead and slit my new Ferrara guide in the head and I ended up having to take it Larry's up near Groton CT and they did a beautiful job.
Only shaved off 0.005 popped in my new valves, springs, and retainers. Skunk2 Alpha springs & retainers Super glad my buddy Rafito recommended them. Job was well worth the money.
Also since everytime I'm working on this thing im on a time crunch I ended up swapping out my Toda Spec A's for Skunk 2 Tuner 2 Cams since I didn't have time to properly degree an time the cams according to the cam card.
Here i found out my timing belt tensioner was strpped out & having to head back to Virginia had to stop afyer it was basically all together. That said Rafito came through and helped a brotha out by fixing it while i was away.
Presently my pops and buddy picture are helping me out by taking care of the wheels and alignment .All I should have left is a clutch pedal and valve adjustment to see if I can't quiet down this head and I should be on my way to the dyno this weekend!
I any can point me in the direction of something to resolve a noisy head thats not the LMA please let me know.
