So I've had a 1988 Wagovan for a little over a year now and I have fell hard for it. I've all but retired the 95 hatchback due to this and a couple other things.
The wago has a d15b7/z6 mini me setup w/obd1 conversion but its obviously no powerhouse. So this begs the question.
Do I k swap it like everything else I've owned?
I would like to Kswap it and typically wouldn't hesitate but its an unmolested car with few problems for its age.
I hate the idea of cutting the mount off the frame rail for a k series but I mean come on its not a 100% mint show room quality car intended for collectible.
Do I go with a built d16z6 and boost?
I guess I wouldn't mind doing a built D series but only to make ease of retaining A/C and I love that low bull dog gear in the stock trans. The trade off is I'm not a huge fan of the power curve that a D series makes.
And I would prefer the stock, N/A power of a K24 over a boosted D series that would end up financially in the same ball park when built correctly.
Maybe I could go another route with it? (As long as rt4wd is retained)
Do I leave it alone because I daily it most the time?
I do daily the car for the most part which is a double edge sword. I love to drive it as its a big part of who I am, however if an accident ever occurs (my fault or not) parts will be hard to source and maybe not even fixable.
But who am I kidding I love the damn car so drive it right? Save the racecar's for the pretty weekends.
I'd like some outside opinions on which direction to go. Some others experience may be helpful to my future plans.
I have fully researched the process of all avenues so no problems there, just looking for insight of opinions.
P.S. I am fairly certain I can fit the k24 under the hood but its gonna be at the cost of Fab work to a fairly clean car.
