Default Honda CRV vibrates until I lift the gas pedal

Hi guys,

Yes, I noticed there are many threads with Honda's shaking however this I feel is a bit different. My Crv (2005, 2l petrol 4 speed auto) drives perfect till it suddenly starts to shake which ends the moment I lift my foot from the gas pedal. It only occurs when the speed is constant so never when accelerating/braking/ idling. It also only occurs from 50- 80km/h (approx 30-50 mph) never below, never above.
I changed the inner rightside driveshaft (because it was beginning to go bad) but to no avail.
No fault codes.

Any idea anyone?

When you say shake, i am thinking you mean the sensation of a out of balance it out of round type of vibration. There are other posts about this and allot on you tube . Assuming wheel balance isn't the culprit, and it sounds unlikely, its a shaft issue. I have this issue on my 2006 and I have complete axles ordered to hopefully remedy the situation. Perhaps replace the left inner as it might be damaged . The tripod joint ( inner) has 3 contact points in the housing with rollers on needle bearings. They can bind under torque causing the shaft to sort of freeze and not flex as needed, shaking the whole drive train in its mounts.

If you mean a shake like a slipping shake feeling only in fourth gear, that's different. That can occur when the torque converter clutch (TCC) applies under light to moderate load in 4th gear, and fluid contamination causes the TCC to slip and "chatter" causing a shaking . The test for this is hit the D3 button and travel at those speeds and see if the condition occurs. This condition is remedied usually by changing the trans fluid 1 time but good to do 3 drain and fills with a road travel between.

Hi and thanks for the reply!

I will definitely test the 3rd gear thing to see, if that is the culprit. I already changed the axles but there still could be problems with there because I have not found here (in Finland) a great Honda mechanic to actually know what they are doing and during winter times (I dont have a garage....) doing things by myself not that easy...

Thank you again, much appreciated!

It seems the second option was the culprit: I tested with D3 button and everything works great. Thanks a lot for the help, saved me lot of time and money!

PS. IN Finland it is very difficult to get original Honda ATF oils, have you had experience with other oils from Mobil etc that fulfil the Honda requirements, are they as good?

The fluids are manufactured for honda so if there is one that is available that specifies its for honda that should be ok. You will need 3 liters each drain/fill. Also there is an inline filter behind the bottom of the radiator you can replace. I usually use a Raybestos inline magnetic filter (Amazon sells). You should order a shop manual ( ebay) for your Crv. It will help immensely.
