Cant get the distributor rotor off, no set screw, why??
Im working on my buddys 99 Civic EX and we’re trying to replace the distributor cap and rotor so I had the cap off and was trying to take off the rotor but theres no set screw?? We cranked the engine over and over and checked a hundred times over and theres just no set screw (or even a hole) where theres supposed to be one, its just all solid black plastic. I tried pulling it straight off and it doesnt budge even a tiny bit, was going to break it apart and pry it off with pliers but still not sure if this will even work so didnt bother trying especially since its not my car. Ive watched all the videos and read all the forums and cant find anything about this? Im so confused??
I've had some of these cars where there are no set screw. Essentially you had to break off the rotor and the replacement one would allow you to have a set screw.
so you just broke the old ones off? Did you have to pull the rotor off of the shaft it rotates on? And yes our new replacement one has a hole for a set screw but no screw, will have to go pick one up at a hardware store most likely.
Had the same issue previous owner put on what im guessing was an autozone / advanced auto dizzy and it had no screw. Had to crack the rotor into pieces and then wiggle what was left off the shaft, huge pain in the ***. Luckily for me underneath there was indeed a screw hole in the shaft so just had to find a bolt that fit for the new rotor.
There's actually a way to remove it by using a small flat head and pushing it out, I had to do this once but I diddnt have to break the rotor but its old and useless so why not break it off haha
