older 2.0si prelude
Hey,
I'm not too familiar with the older 2.0L preludes. I'm more of a civic guy myself, but a friend of mine just got a nice 2.0si. He wants to modify it, and i was just curious about what options he has besides the normal bolt-ons. Another thing is that he doesn't really have the money for a swap, I was wondering if you can bolt on a B16 head, or maybe just some nice cams or something. Any info is appreciated. thanks

B16/B18 heads do not fit w/o major modification. He dosen't have much to work with here...I love my 3g Prelude, but its pretty hard to find mods for it. About the only thing he can do is, purchase a turbo kit from ludespeed.com if he wants more power. Other then that, there isn't much.
Don't bother trying a B16 head conversion; entirely too much work. One row of head bolts line up and the other doesn't which equates to custom drilling and tapping. On top of that, our factory oil pumps can't supply the pressure needed for VTEC, so you can forget any kind of a VTEC swap.

That's my site, and he can easily find info there on his car.
Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Very difficult to swap another B series engine. Those engine are designed to sit almost straight up or tilt slightly forward while all 3rd gen and later Prelude engine tilt back. The H22 would be easier but is quite expensive. I hate to say this but if you want more power you are better off going with another car. That Ludespeed turbo kit is crap. I know because I had it. If you just want to make a little more power then a DC header and cam gears are a good option. Engine swaps are not generally a good idea with 3rd gens.
