Default Redid harness cranked once and now it clicks

I had my harness redone and i hooked it up and left the thermostat ground off to let it crank without starting to get oil flowing through the engine since it has been sitting for a long time. It cranked for a few seconds then i put the thermostat ground back and it just clicks now. The only thing is i dont have the second wire going into the fuse box in the engine bay. ill have pics on i had a ground on it when it first cranked but it sparked when i went to move it and i took it off. i saw that that is supposed to be for the alternator but there are no more leads. I have a feeling he forgot to put the lead on but would it crank without it? or does it also act as a ground? also the alternator doesnt have a lead on it can i just get a lead going straight from the alternator to the fuse box?
