Alright HT, I messed up. The rear tint on my '08 coupe got so bad I couldn't see out of it at all. I decided to remove it so I can also repair my rear window defroster. I was running my heat gun across the tint and the film peeled off slowly in mostly one sheet. I thought the residue being left behind was just glue and I was good to just use rubbing alcohol or buy some Goo Gone.. I was wrong.. It's the other half of the freaking tint and this crap is indestructible.
I've tried lacquer thinner (Mineral spirits), alcohol based window cleaner, and went out today to grab Aircraft Paint Remover per recommendation of a random LS1Tech article and a Reddit post that came up in Google.
Nothing. It made no difference. 5 minutes or 2 hours did nothing. I could have wiped sour cream on it for the same result. Is the non-methylene crap my downfall? I can't see out of my rear window and neither can my rear dash camera so I wanna fix this really soon. My goal is to save the defroster lines so I can fix the broken area and have a working defroster for my winter commutes so I don't want to jump straight into taking it to a tint shop. Any suggestions on something that will murder that film off?
