Icon3 Attempting to Plan Mini Me Swap

I drive a 1996 civic hatchback cx and a 2000 civic hatchback cx both standard. My 96' civic was my first car, it was a family members daily driver and had around 260,000 miles on it. The car hadn't received all the attention it needed, it burned oil and needed about a quart of oil added every month and a half or so. The car was also driven pretty hard. I drove it for about a year till the engine gave up on me around 270,000 miles. Shortly after, I picked up my 2000 civic. I've had it for a little over a month now. I believe it has the D16y7 in it. I would like to do a B swap on the car at some point but its just not in my budget, I'm only 17 working as many hours as I can get. I love wrenching and from what I've red on this forum, a Mini Me swap with a D16y8 head to give the car vtec seems like a more affordable option for me. Looking for any advice I can get.
