Hello all, I recently bought this beautiful baby and have been putting some love into her since mid summer.
Well the rain came around and I found out the windshield seal is busted in a few spots and it lets quite a bit of water in. It drips/drizzles from the top corners on the inside but the rest of the rain just runs down the floor and collects there. I took it into a windshield shop to just have it replaced since there was a huge crack in it any way and had intended on doing it at some point. The guy at the shop checked it out for a minute and told me he thought the rust looked pretty bad and it could be bad enough that when he takes the windshield out he might not be able to put another in. Since they were just a generic windshield place he suggested I contact some body shops. Well after my 6th call and the closest thing I got was a body shop telling me that they could take the windshield off and look at it but might end up with the same problem with not being able to put it or another back on.
From what I understand, it could be repaired but if the rust is bad enough but it could be super costly. One shop even told me that if it was bad enough to need welding and what not that it could make the title a salvage. I've never had rust issues with my civics before so I am super unfamiliar with how bad the damage actually is and what my options are per $$$. Was hoping I could get some opinions from you guys.

well your never going to find out how bad it is untill you remove the glass and see for yourself
maybe youll get lucky you never know
i do have a idea for what you can do to fix your leaks without removing the glass
if your interested heres a little step by step
what you can do it remove the rubber molding around the glass
after thats done youll see alot more of the rust and youll get a better idea of how bad it is
then what you can do is get yourself a aluminum brush because aluminum removes rust
so what youll do
using a spary bottle youll get the rust wet and with your aluminum brush youll remove all the rust you can see
once you feel like youve done all you can you can then throw 2 coats of primer on there with a spray can and then two coats of white paint
let that dry for a few hours and then youll grab a bottle of black silicone
the kind made for making gaskets
youll bead this all around the glass hopefully sealing it again
and while its still wet youll reinstall the rubber molding
and if youve lead a good clean life
the glass wont leak anymore ^_-
this is something you can do over the weekend yourself
the total cost i think would be about 25 bucks

I have the same issue, but less rust than OP I think. I went to get my windshield replaced, but the shop found a small rust hole after removing the weatherstripping. It's probably 1/4" wide, maybe less. I've temporarily sealed it with silicone and I don't get as much water leaking in now (did it in a rush since it was about to rain hard), but I still have two cracks in my windshield. That's not really a solution, ya know?
@hondanoob66 how much have those shops quoted you?
I was in a similar situation with a leak. My windshield was cracked so it was a good time to address it.
The glass company I found was local and worked with me - they removed the glass and gave me a day to fix the rust.
So I brushed, sanded and applied POR-15 to clean up the rust. There was a hole that I used seam sealer on. It's not an ideal fix, but there hasn't been any further leaking and it was about 2 years ago. As a bonus for using a good glass company they made sure to use an OE style seal so it looks good.
As far as how it ended with the car. I pretty much called every glass and auto body shop in town and had a few different people eyeball it for me. I found someone at a local shop that was confident enough eghat he could do it so i took my chances.. he managed to get the windshield on and after had mentioned he couldn't guarantee it would be leak proof. It's rained heavily since then and I've seen no leaking. He promised me that would be that last windshield ever put on the car though.
So basically I just rolled the dice. Cost me 300$.
