1991 rt awd swap into 91 crx hf
I'm interested in swapping the rt awd system into my stock 1991 Honda crx hf for better drivability in the winter. Is this feasible or am I better off with a crv drivetrain. I may also lower the car by one inch. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
it’s been done both with cr-v and wagon iirc. you probably better have lots of fab skills or lots of money for someone else to get it all done for you.
Rt4wd wagon stuff probably easier to fit but more difficult to find. Crv stuff easier to find but more custom work needed to make it fit. Either way, agree there is a certain level of customization/fabrication needed with either option.
I'm fine with doing Fab work my main concern is going from independent rear suspension to solid rear axle. I've found a complete drivetrain near me so I can get the parts pretty quickly. Another question I have is can I put the rt 6spd into the car without putting the rear axle in?
of course you can
you just leave the drive shaft disconected
your going to have to remove your gas tank and make a hole in your trunk to make this happen
i did this to my crx back in like 2007
i used the wagon awd system

if your not going to drive the awd car in the winter then the awd system would just be a waste of time
i say go for it man ^_-
youll have a lot of fun with it
and remember its just a car

There's a tonne of aftermarket support for this conversion now. Go with the CRV rear end and use a freelander VC, much more affordable. If you find a wagon driveline hit me up i make parts for fitting the conversion:
