Car shows not ready for emission test
Does anyone know what's causing the car to be not ready for emission test? We changed the battery recently since the car cannot start. We took the car in for emission test several times, but it kept saying the car is not ready. There was no code or anything. Since it is a backup car, but we already put over 500 miles, but the emission test still shows the car is not ready.
Thanks for the info. I didn't even think to check the owner's manual. Do I have to do the steps on page 286 immediately before the test, or can we do it days before? Ambient temperature of 40F to 95F is referring to the weather, correct?
We didn't do the steps on page 286, but did bring it into the dealer. The only thing the dealer said was "There's no error code. Just keep driving." It's frustrating since we already drove for over 500 miles just trying to get the car ready for the test. We've brought the car in for emission testing at least 3 times, but it keeps showing not ready.

Once the emission readiness monitors are set (there are several different type of monitors), it will remain set unless you disconnect the car battery or there is issue detected with an emission control system.
A code reader/scanner can easily check if the emission readiness monitors are all set; and also which emission monitors are not set. Many auto parts stores will check it for free or loan you the equipment in certain State(s).

I recently had this issue too, after my battery completely died...failed my smog test. What, I think, did it for me was the "driving 50 to 60mph" and "let it coast without using the pedals" bullet points. Definitely didn't take 500 miles, probably 50 miles.
