My trunk latch wasn't closing, so I removed it and was tinkering with it. While it was removed, I tried to use my key to unlock the doors electronically, but nothing happened. Figuring it was due to the trunk latch being removed, I put the trunk latch back on the car (it closed, yay) and reconnected everything, but car still refuses to unlock itself.
Only the drivers side door has a physical keyhole, and while the key turns just fine the car doesn't respond at all. The unlock button on the key doesn't work either, though the car lights respond normally when I press the buttons. I can still get the horn to sound by double pressing the lock button on the key.
I've been searching online and calling mechanics and no one has ever heard of this problem before. Anyone here have any experience with an issue like this?
1. So, this only happened right after removing the trunk latch?
2. If it doesn't unlock with either the remote transmitter or the key in the key cylinder, it sounds like it is possibly an issue with the multiplex integrated control unit (MICU). The MICU is integrated as part of the under-dash fuse/relay box; replacement would be the whole fuse box assembly. - But, sometimes a reset of the MICU will restore it by disconnecting the battery cables for 10 - 15 minutes to discharge the capacitors in the system.
Trying using a different remote transmitter to see if it unlock and locks the doors. If it works with the different transmitter; but, still not with the key cylinder, then it may be two different issues.
3. Otherwise, if you only have the one transmitter, press the unlock or lock button on the transmitter at least 10 times to reset the transmitter. See additional procedures in the attached image.
