I have a 97 Honda Del Sol that originally did not come with fog lights. The challenge that I have is that I want to wire up the fog lights to use the AUX LT. switch that came with the stock fog lights when they were an option. The fog lights are angel eyes and I have already have run power from the battery and grounded it to the relay while tapping into the parking lights to turn the lights on (my wife wanted them to come on with the parking lights). From the relay there are only 2 wires remaining white which turns on the fog lights and red to power the switch. The challenge that I am having is how to wire AUX LT. light to do the following.
1. Turn on with the switch (most important).
2. Turn on the green indicator when they are on
3. Light up when the parking lights are engaged
So far I have not seen anyone tackle this exact scenario that I have seen and I would welcome anyone with electrical knowledge to guide me. I have included a picture of the switch and a female plug from the donor car. ANy help on what wires does what and what I have to tap into is greatly appreciated!
Wires from left to right:
Black, red/yellow, red/black, red, red/white
Do at your own risk. The Del Sol did not come with fog lights , and there is no indication that Honda accessory fog lights were offered. Also Honda had different wire color variations among some models; so, I can't find the exact match to the connector in your photo. However, this is what it looks like based on some comparable connectors.
The Red/Blk wire is the illumination (+) and the Red is illumination (-). When the headlight switch is turned on to either park or headlights, the dash and console lights are lit, if spliced into the related Red/Blk and Red wires, the fog light will illuminate when the headlight switch is on. Red/Blk wire and Red are located as various locations like ashtray illumination, hazard switch illumination, rear window defogger illumination, etc.
Blk: Ground (-)
Red/White: Power (+) via headlight combo switch when headlights are on. Normally, fog lights are wired so that they turned on if the headlights are on (which would be the Red/White wire at terminal no. 3 of the headlight switch). However, in your case, you wanted them on when the parking lights are on. The Red/Grn wire at terminal no. 1 of the headlight switch would be spliced into to provide power when the parking lights are on.
Red/Yel: When fog light switch is ON, power (+) from the Red/White wire goes through the switch contacts to the Red/Yel wire. Red/Yel wire from fog light switch provides power (+) to the fog light relay to energizes the relay coil. When the relay coil is energized via power (+) and ground (-), it closes the relay contacts and send power (+) (this can be a separate power wire or part of the same Red/Yel wire power source) to the fog lights. A 4 prong relay has two power inputs, a ground input, and one power output.
A 15A inline fuse is recommended at the Red/White or Red/Yel wire.
