Honda Accord 2007 - Last started 8 years ago
Hi All,
New to the world of Honda since Ive inherited a 2007 Honda Accord Euro. The good part is it has been in a garage for the last 8 years so it looks perfect, the bad part is it hasnt been started or moved in 8 years.
Before I do something stupid, I wanted to find out what would be a normal startup process for a car/engine/trans that has stayed stationary for so long.
So far im thinking the following
- Empty fuel tank of old fuel and replace with fresh fuel
- Oil and filter change
- ATF oil change
- Remove spark plugs and put a bit of oil down each cylinder and let stand for a day or two, maybe replace sparkplugs if necessary
- Maybe remove cam cover and put some fresh oil over cams?
- Coolant change
- Brakefluid change
- Battery change
Anything else that im missing?

I would also check/clean the intake tube and replace the air filter. Coil packs might need replacing too. Do a thorough check of the engine bay to make sure there are no 'residents' hiding/nesting inside.
Take a video of the initial start up if you can.

Check your timing chain tensioner, I had an '03 Accord with the K24 motor that sat for 1 winter and when I started it again in the spring, the timing chain jumped and it bent valves.
Also, I suggest removing the spark plugs and the main relay on the first start to ensure there is no excessive load on the timing chain. Just remove the spark plugs and the relay and crank it over for a few seconds first to clear any oil you may have put in the cylinders and to ensure all the parts are rotating freely.
Fuel filter too, I didn't see that on your list.
