can you keep a obd2 ecu in a obd1 car.
i did some searches, (archived/recent) and couldnt find the answers that i really needed.
i have a 92 cx, i am buying a b16b, but i dont want the hastle of getting a ecu and getting it reprogrammed, gsr injectors and distributor, and back side mount. i just want to keep it as it is.
so that would mean i would have to keep the b16b ecu right.
anyways, is that okay to do, to leave the obd2 ecu in my car. And just have to get some wires from my harness, (knowing that 92's are prewired for vtec) for the extra o2 and for the knock. and be okay or is there more to it then that.
since most peps decied to go to obd1 ecu with their obd2 engine. i know more power is achieved by going obd1 ecu. but i am sure keeping the obd2 ecu for the ctr engine is a lot cheaper route then getting all that stuff done.
sorry if this was dumb to ask.

Yes you could do that if you want.... Personally I would just run an OBD1 chipped P28, P30, or P72.... If you run your car on that ECU you are going to just end up spending money on a harness converter unless you already have one... Good Luck
who sells harness converters. i mean i have seen the obd 2 to obd 1. but who sells harness to use a obd2 ecu in a obd1 car.
and what type of cels do people get when keeping a obd2 ecu in their obd1 car.
and thank you for your help.

Ok, yes you can use a JDM obd2 style ecu on your car with no problems because jdm ecus are not really obd2. they have no crank fluc. sensor, or second o2. so all you need to do is call Holeshot Racing (714) 772-8832 to get a obd1 to obd2 adapter, i think its like 175. I heard they did one on a 94 RHD civic with a jdm type r motor swap, worked perfectly.....
This is the easiest thing to do..
Get the CTR ecu. Sell it on ClubSi.
Buy a chipped P28 ecu.
Get a 2000 ITR engine harness. It will work fine with the new motors distributor and injectors.
See, if you decided to stay with the CTR ecu, you're gonna have to get a ecu harness. Extra money that you shouldn't have to spend. You're also gonna have to switch out your injectors and distributor if you stay with your stock harness.

for fowler.... or anyone else that can answer this.
as long as get the obd1 to obd2 harness i dont need to worry about changing the distributor and injectors.

You have an OBD1 engine harness. You have OBD2 plugs on your motor.
The two don't match up.
The ecu harness doesn't make a difference in relation to anything in the engine bay.
Buy an ITR harness and everything will match up fine.
okay kind of confused sorry, so now your saying i dont need those harness kits, just get a itr harness, and i dont have to worry about the injectors and distributor. and if the itr harness do i need a jdm one or usdm one, or it doesnt matter.
thanks again fowler.

Get a usdm ITR harness. Easier to come by and it matches the layout of your engine bay (RHD vs. LHD).
The harness (ecu harness) kits are mostly meant for 96-01 civics/integras that want to utilize an OBD1 ecu. It can work the opposite way (like what you're asking), but there really isn't a point.
With the money you make from selling the CTR ecu, you can buy a chipped P28 and prolly an ITR engine harness.
