Default Distributor - lack of power - Solved

I was complaining of a lack of power in my 99 civic, and I had a oil leak that I could not find....Until today. My civic was running fine, but I was lacking power and had a small oil leak it was very frustrating. I noticed oil around the distributor area, and I thought my block was cracked. I took off the distributor cap and it was oily on the inside, and I thought this is not good at all. I did some research and I already knew I had to replace the distributor. I did not know how to do that so I watched some YouTube videos. I didn't know if I was going to buy a auto parts distributor or the one from the dealer. I was told Honda ignition systems are sensitive and going with a OEM is best. I went with OEM, and that damn thing was almost a thousand dollars. Once I took the distributor off I noticed a O-ring on the distributor, and it was basically almost off. I didn't the the distributor had a O-ring on the inside, and that was my oil leak problem. I put the new Honda distributor on, and let me tell you, there is a night and day difference on how my car runs now. It's zippier, has more power, it accelerates way better. I couldn't believe the difference when I was driving around.

hey hawks85.. glad to hear that you got it running correctly. Yeah you're lucky Honda was still selling your distributor! With my HX they discontinued it and I had to go through a couple of aftermarket distributors (lots of junk out there) until I got a brand that works well! I did replace all the internals with Honda OEM parts though, igniter, coil.. just used the aftermarket housing/sensors.. You're right it is a night and day difference.. everything wears out over time! Sorry you had to pay close to $1000! ouch!

That oil leak didn't help. When I took my cap off there was oil on the inside of it, not a lot, but enough that I had to replace. I almost went with a auto store one based on price, I didn't want to spend 1000 dollars for a distributor. Honda distributors are very well built, so I won't have to worry about for a long long time.
