Transmission - D3 1/2 ?
Dropped off my son, reversed out of the driveway, drove about a mile before I got a feeling
something seemed odd; looked at the dash, no light indicating the selected transmission mode,
looked down at the stick and saw that it was somehow finely balanced between D4 and D3.
Seems a chance in a million. No harm done, car seems fine. I guess file this under "ODD"

Yeah, I would think so. If it's "between" gears, it's not really, it's in one or the other, just not kicking the indicator light on of the Gear it's in.
I believe I had the same thing happen to me once, but it was because I was connecting the gear shifter to the transmission under the car and I didn't quite have it right while I was still attaching it.
As you said, no harm done.
