91 ef b20b obd1 intermittent inop. Cooling fan/fuel pump
Hi all i have a 91 ef hatch b20b p75 obd1 fully stock. most of the time my car runs fine, starts and fires right up and cooling fan turns as soon as key is on ( guess tuner programmed it that way)
but intermittenty, when i turn my key on, fans wont turn on, fuel pump primes (sometimes wont) however at times it will cut in and out kind of fast( hear a clicking sound under driver dash) and it will have a long start ( fully charged battery new, starter new too and alternator charges great)
But when on it is on after it acts up it has crappy and poor performance like a heavy misfire, its wierd but i notice all these problems in conjuction
I know some will say its the main relay but usually my fuel pump works just fine, and idont think that has anything to do with the fans turning on or not unless theres a ground/ power associated with it. Also i keep reading that the main relay either works or it doesnt. Not sure how true that is or if can act up intermittently
please correct.if im wrong. Not sure why it does this
Also sometimes when i turn key on i hear a delayed click from under driver dash( like 3-5 seconds after key is in on position
besides this when it doesnt act up it runs great..
any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
my ground to the thermostat is good

Doesn't sound like the main relay, but it's not entirely out of the question.
Sounds more like electrical problems than anything else. Have you checked any of the other grounds? Any CELs?

thanks for your reply buddy
Sounds like the fans are wired to be on all the time with the key on, so they are hard wired to power. I would trace the wires ALL THE WAY INTO THE DASH. Look under there and find out whats clicking. I would start taking stuff apart to find that noise if you have to in order to get a closer look.
Possible that the two share the same circuit, whether its the same relay, ground or power that's what you have to find out. I would start with the fan wires since that's probably easier to access than the wiring than the fuel pump.

There's two interior grounds you should check - labelled G401 and G701 on this sheet - http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/m...SH200/16-8.pdf
I know it's for a CRX, the locations of these are pretty much identical on an ED6. Both could be messing with the circuits you're dealing with.

For stock 91 Civics, both the main relay and radiator fan relay are grounded on the thermostat housing (G101/G151). Clean and tighten the G101/G151 ground connection and then go from there.
