Default ENGINE SWAP HELP, Prelude SI 1994

Hey so i have a Prelude Si 1994 MANUAL TRANNY, and i want to swap the engine to a better one.

I have been doing some research on the DOHC F20B + DOHC H22A VTEC (Red Cover)

Would these be a good swap for my Manual 94' Prelude? And if so would they fit my bay?
If you have any other suggestions for engines that cost around 1k-2k ish please let me know below, im new to the car scene and i want to grab more information on these.

Thank you!

The H22A is the easiest choice, as it is virtually identical to the H22A1 that was used in the vtec cars. You will just have to do the vtec wiring, and use a vtec ecu.

I'd go either H23 or H22. Your going to want to get a OBD-1 motor, so one that came in a '92-'95 car, that way you don't have to worry about trying to get a cat mounted and run new 02 sensor wires.
A JDM H22A that came in a japanese 4th gen Prelude would be nice, makes 197hp/161tq, has full VTEC, is OBD1 but they are a little pricey (north of $2k).
The H22A1 that came in the American 4th gen Prelude VTEC (BB1), Canadian 4th gen Prelude SR-V (BB1) & Australian 4th gen VTi-R (BB1) would work, made a little less power than the H22A @ 187hp/153tq, but has full VTEC and is OBD-1.
The other option would be an OBD-1 H23A1/H23A1/H23A3, they came in 4th gen Preludes & some Accords in the American, Canadian, Australian and European markets. They made 160-hp/156tq, no VTEC (hence the lower than H22A VTEC power #'s) but they were OBD-1.
Heres a link to a "H23A" on HMOTORSONLINE complete, for $1,100
Heres a link to a JDM "H22A" on aBay eBay complete, for $1,600
JDM will cost you a bit more, VTEC will cost a bit more as well.

If you go with a H22 that has VTEC, you can use a matching H22 engine harness and ecu and be fine or use your existing '94 Si harness and a VTEC ecu and just add a couple wires for VTEC, like "snobordboy" said.
The transmissions are all interchangeable between F and H series engines so your good there, starter is a direct bolt on, they all use hydraulic clutches, all engine mounts are the same (given you stay manual trans).
Swapping an H22 or H23 into a 94 Prelude Si is really pretty straight forward, its about as easy as a Honda engine swap comes.
Another option is an H22A4 but they ARE OBD-2... so unless you convert the rest of your car to OBD-2 your going to have engine codes and check engine lights. You would also need an H22A4 engine harness as the sensors and connectors are different (crankshaft position, distributor etc.) These motors came in 5th gen, American, Canadian & Australian Preludes, they are fairly affordable compared to JDM motors, have full VTEC & make 197/156tq.
