Replaced caliper, still sticks!
Hey folks. I have a v6 and I'm out of town and rear driver side brake stuck on just as I was leaving. I replaced the caliper and that sticks on too. Not so much that it can't be turned but enough that it really drags. However, I can screw in the brake piston with not too much effort. (This confuses the heck out of me..)
I also changed the hose there.
I hate to assume coincidence, and I don't really know how to tell if the caliper is actually done, so I'm kinda flailing. Any suggestions really appreciated, I gotta get home!
Thanks

Its possible that there is something wrong with the hydraulic system but not likely. It would have to be hydraulic pressure pressing on the rear caliper's piston without your foot on the pedal. Theres not too many causes for something like this. Usually the caliper is the culprit when it comes to sticking brakes. If you replaced it then there is a very small chance the new caliper is faulty as well but that is the direction my logic takes me. Your sure the integral e-brake isn't being applied? The pads are properly installed and not binding?
Worst case just to get home, you could either un-mount the caliper and clamp the piston in (large c-clamp) or remove it entirely and try some sort of bolt & nut with sealing washers to plug off the end of the brake line to that caliper. These are odd ball ideas here, not recommended but if you really need to, also be careful under heavy braking if you do do this, especially in an emergency situation, the car pay pull to one side a little.
