Buying a EG Civic with an Swap in Ca
So I知 thinking of purchasing this 93 Civic with a b18b1 swap. Am I going to have problems registering the car or getting it smogged? I知 not familiar with the process buying a car swapped but I hear can become a headache.
If the seller has not smogged it within the last 90 days you will have to smog it. To smog it, it has to have a BAR certificate to show what vehicle to smog it as. Whatever vehicle the engine came from you smog to the standards of that vehicle. If it doesnt have a BAR sticker to show the smog place it will fail. Getting BARed can be a headache but its pretty easy normally. Im not even sure if the refs are open now. The state referee are basically state run smog shops that can certify your swap.
Just have the seller have it smoged because they are responsible for smoging it before selling it so if its not smoged you must reduce the price.
Once its smoged registering is no issue after that.
Every 2 years I believe your required to smog it and depending on the smog station as long as it has all the stock emissions stuff you might pass or you can just find someone to pay to have it passed, its what allot of people do, its usually around $250.
Or like mentioned go through all the requirement's to have it BAR registered and you will have no issues after that smoging it in CA.

If the seller illegally smogs it. You will be in the same situation in two years when you have to smog it again. You will also run the risk of some pretty big tickets if you get caught.
