Default Map Sensor

I have a 2012 Civic EX-L and I changed out the map sensor with a new one. The car will not start with the new sensor. The sensor is a genuine Honda part. I took off the map sensor and the car will start but you have to give it some gas when you first start it. All of the notification lights are on, on the dash. How do I fix this so the car will start normally and the lights go off.

How was it determined the MAP sensor was bad? A trouble code, testing, etc.? If there was a trouble code, what was the code?
