I'm trying to figure out what's causing my ABS light and Handbrake light to be on constantly in my 2000 Honda Accord 1.8. I have tried shorting the obd1 connector which worked for the o2 sensor issue however nothing seems to happen now that's replace. However my ABS light and Handbrake warning light are always on whilst driving. Cruise control still works despite this.
Hmmm... I guess lets check the basics first. Is the brake fluid level actaully at the right level. Please check.
Do the brakes feel spongy or anything outof whack there?
It's possible it's the ABS solenoids, sometimes you can get them working by going out and slamming on the brakes a few times to get the ABS "restarted" and working again.
Otherwiise ....it's possible this is a low battery, poor alternator not causing the proper voltage and the dash is reacting.

I checked the brake fluid and it's perfectly in the centre. I also took the car out to a quiet part of the industrial estate and slammed the brakes on a few times. The ABS light and handbrake lights are still on. Any known way of reading these codes? I'm pretty sure the car is obd1 due to the blue two pin plug but am I missing another perhaps? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks 👍 Two pin plug from brake reservoir
OK, that's some of the items eliminated. What's the voltage at the battery reading while the car is on and off?
And yes, OBD-I is what you have. When you brakes hard, did you feel the ABS pulse in any way? Probably not, since it's on, but just checking.
Also, you could have a disconnected wire (or broken) to the ABS or brake.
You said the fluid is fine, are the plugs solidly into the reservoir? And on the other end, if you take the wheel off the front of the car, can you see the ABS plug going to the brakes?
Also, I presume you are someone in Europe as the 1.8 L (I didnt think) was sold in the US or Japan.

Thanks for the guidance. When I tested the brakes no they didn't pulse at all, ABS light satyed on the entire time plus the wheels locked-up first time I did it as I pushed real hard. I will check the brakes and ABS wires and will report back, would I be able to do that on car ramps or does the wheel need to come off? Yeap the reservoir and both it's plugs seemed to be solid. Yeap from the UK! 👍🌎 I'll have to source a Multimeter to check the voltages.
