(Long sorry short! My mechanic is telling me my ecu may be bad & cant adjust the timing on the dizzy till I get new one , could it be because i have a obd2 ecu with an obd1 dizzy? I’m learning as I go)

the car the CEL has been blinking (indicating misfire) & owner said he payed to fix he was told he needed hondata to remove the blinking CEL , so until now it’s actually started to misfire and buck , changed the timing belt , put the manual tensioner , & water pump took the misfire bucking away but still blinking , then bought a new dizzy , & when putting it on I put the timing off a bit , took it to my mechanic and said he can’t adjust the dizzy while it’s misfiring and that I probably need a new
