Looks like it's stuffed back far enough to still handle even with that iron block. Seems a bit of a shame to ditch the clutch pedal in such a car but at these kind of power to weight ratios a well sorted TH400 should be a bit quicker in 1/4 ml.

I will day after building a really simple turbo 5.3l s10 with a full manual valve body th400 and a 3800 rpm stall I can totally see why people go the auto route so often. There’s just stuff that an auto trans can do with a good stall that can’t be done with a manual trans. Plus the reliability, longevity and ability to handle the power just can’t be beat by a simply built th400 trans. They are beasts.
