Poked around and found several different threads but not a consistent answer.

dx/stock is a 212mm flywheel. When ordering a clutch, i *think* i want the one that matches the flywheel (IE, 90-91), I know the 89 came with 200mm flywheel and thus a smaller clutch plate, but what im not clear on is whether using a clutch that matches the flywheel will cause problems with the 89 trans.

anyone clarify if i've misunderstood this?

theres two things you need match, input spline from transmission, and flywheel/clutch diameter.

88's had a 21 spline shaft, 89-91 (and 92-00 civics) had 20 splines - which are fatter/stronger splines, but i've never heard of any failure related to shafts breaking.

88 and 89 had a 200mm diameter clutch disc and flywheel. 90 and 91 had a 212mm. the difference is minimal, and really you can expect any new flywheel is 212mm.

so since you have a 89 transmission, youll be fine with a 20 spline/212mm clutch kit as long as you get a new flywheel. or make sure its already been updated to 212mm. i recommend a new flywheel anyway, instead of resurfacing.
